What Motivates Us

“The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.”1  This simple statement of fact is quite profoundly felt here in the Riviera Maya, one of the most celebrated tourist destinations in all of Mexico.  Those entering the work force who speak English AND Spanish will fare significantly better (in terms of economic reward and job opportunity) than those who speak only Spanish.
~philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, 1922, “Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus”

What We Do

Twice a week, KKIS volunteers work in a public high school with small groups of students who rarely interact with native English speakers.  Our focus is on conversation, pronunciation and simply helping students overcome the shyness which everyone learning new language experiences.

Participating in this all volunteer program is fun and easy.  KKIS provides a sheet of conversation starters, white boards, markers, and introductions.  Please join us!

How Does It Help?

Last year’s survey of student comfort speaking and understanding English showed a 1 point improvement on a 1-5 scale! Both students and volunteers are enjoying this program!
