The Alphabet Game.

The Alphabet Game.

With the vocabulary the DIF students have learned from the computer software provided by Brillkids, KKIS volunteers have created games to aid memory. One of these is the Alphabet Game in which sets of 1″ X 1″ cards were printed with written words on one set and a colorful picture depicting the words on the other set. The alphabet was written on a white board and the words cards were dealt out to the students around each table. The KKIS volunteer would ask for the word beginning with “a” and the kids would search their pile for “apple” and cover the white board “a”. They continue through the alphabet including ice, queen, umbrella and zebra. Then the picture cards were dealt and slowly but surely the word cards were covered with the picture cards.
The students really enjoyed the game and it was very gratifying for them to realize the extent of their new vocabulary: action words, animals, parts of the body, colors, numbers and clothing.
