Back to school

Deidre and Jason with their students in the 5th grade class.

Today the KKIS Project began tutoring again. We started with the 5th grade class a science unit on Planet Earth. The students had moved into the new classrooms that were built over the summer. There was more space, more light and air movement, but also more students. The classes had increase in size from 30 to 42 students, but there was more space and it all worked. We had printed out a booklet discussing Earth’s surface features: islands, rivers, lakes, etc. and had made vocabulary cards in English with matching definitions. The kids each got two cards with single word land features, the volunteer read the definition, then asked for the matching word. The kids were great and eager to learn. The class finished with the children drawing pictures in their notebooks of their favorite feature of Planet Earth.
