Playa del Carmen is full of people and organizations who are helping public school students. This year two local businesses stand out for their involvement and long term commitment to KKIS. The law firm AS&D, and vacation ownership services company, GUSA Capital talk about the impact that giving has had on their business.
Briar Loewen, from GUSA, has been sponsoring high school students since the very beginning of KKIS Scholarship Program, back in the school year 2014-2015. Here’s her story…
Four years ago I was looking for a local, independent non-profit organization that our company could support. We particularly wanted something related to children, and education seemed like an excellent fit.
Alicia was in her last year of high school when we first got involved with KKIS, and today we get to see her daily – she has joined the team at our office as an Auxiliar Auditor and is working full time while simultaneously working on her university degree in Administration and Tourism Development on the weekends.
Antonella Vázquez and her team at AS&D law firm employ a KKIS University Scholar studying law and were instrumental in helping KKIS receive the long-awaited Mexican Donataria status; the ability to give tax-deductible receipts in Mexico! Here’s her story…
We first met Irma when KKIS told us about her dream to become a lawyer. She was just graduating from high school with honors and as part of the KKIS Scholarship Program they wanted her to work in a law firm. After meeting her we agreed to have her in our team.
At first, we didn’t know which tasks would fulfill our needs and would be good for Irma to get a good experience. Now, 5 months later, she has helped us with several activities for both, the legal firm and the non-profit organization dedicated to the legal defense of human rights. From reviewing legal documents to legal investigation and the elaboration of legal documents, Irma has been demonstrating her passion for law.
She has been great. She is intelligent, hardworking and with a willingness to learn.
We not only truly admire KKIS’s work. As working women, we are deeply thankful for the positive impact they make in the lives of young women by giving them the opportunity to get the necessary experience to start their careers, and we feel really honored to help.
