Contests Enhance Learning Model

A small, industrious, group of public primary school teachers from two schools in Nicte Ha are giving students who excel an opportunity to shine.  They have formed an organization called Eductiva and are putting on impressive multi-school Math Contests and Spelling Bees at the Public Library in the Colosio.

KKIS has been working with both schools involved, Adriana Cupul Itza and Rodolfo Menendez de la Peña for 4 years now.  We  have watched these teachers, lead by Mike Humberto Balán Pinto, challenge and inspire students and were so proud to see their collaboration in a well orchestrated event that spotlighted achievers in every grade.

This year’s Spelling Bee involved all 6 grades of morning and afternoon students in 2 schools; ~1,100 students and 20 teachers.  There were 2 elimination rounds before the final contest held on March 15 and 16, 2017.  Prizes of tablets, soccer and volley balls were donated by M&R Ingenieros, a local engineering firm specializing in school and government building construction.

The event was kicked off by Municiple President Christina Torres, who commended the students for studying hard, wished all of them the best and encouraged the students to keep on pursuing their dreams.  Check out the video on her facebook page:
