Corporate Giving That Fuels Education in Playa del Carmen
In May 2024, FIBRA by Macquarie Group, a major player in infrastructure and real estate investment, hosted a team-building event at Hotel Xcaret Arte that turned into something more: a powerful step forward for education in Playa del Carmen.
Partnering with KKIS (Keeping Kids in School), FIBRA gave their team of 100 employees the opportunity to engage directly with a mission that improves lives through education.
This collaboration represents a rising trend in corporate social responsibility in Mexico, especially in the Riviera Maya region—where access to education can be life-changing.
Sharing the KKIS Mission: Stories That Stick
KKIS used the platform to showcase its mission of removing financial barriers to education in Playa del Carmen.

Founder Gayle Collins shared how a backpack donation project became a full nonprofit with long-term scholarship and mentoring programs.

Rick Toone, KKIS’s Marketing & Fundraising Director, presented impact data: 140 current scholarship students, 70+ new applicants in 2024, and a graduation rate far above the national average.

Most moving of all, Elena, a KKIS scholarship student studying law, gave her personal testimony. “Without a sponsor, I wouldn’t be in college today. KKIS gave me a chance, and I’ll use my law degree to help others.”
This segment left a lasting impression on the FIBRA team.

Our programs provide financial assistance and help students develop essential language, life, and work skills
Through a combination of financial aid, community connections, and educational support, we achieve an impressive 86% high school graduation rate, compared to the national average of less than 50% throughout Mexico.
