Team Building with a Twist: Thermo Fisher Gives Back to Playa del Carmen Community

Thermo Fisher Scientific, a global leader in serving science, demonstrated its strong commitment to social responsibility through impactful corporate volunteering in Mexico. During a team-building retreat in Playa del Carmen, the company partnered with KKIS, a nonprofit dedicated to keeping kids in school. Together, they packed 150 backpacks and built 10 bicycles for students, leaving a lasting legacy of support and community care.

Team Building with a Twist

Thermo Fisher employees traded traditional retreat activities for hands-on community service during their corporate volunteering in Mexico. Through this unique and purposeful initiative, they assembled 150 backpacks filled with school supplies and built 10 bikes, all donated to KKIS scholarship students.

Empowering Students Through the Power of Pedals

Access to education often hinges on basic resources like transportation and school materials. According to UNESCO data on Mexico, students in underserved communities face steep challenges in staying in school. Thanks to Thermo Fisher’s generous donation, local students now have new bicycles to help them overcome transportation barriers and attend school more consistently. It’s a powerful reminder of how small actions through corporate volunteering in Mexico can create transformational change.

Grateful for a Shared Mission

KKIS is incredibly grateful for Thermo Fisher’s generosity and alignment with our mission. Every backpack packed and bike built helps bridge educational gaps and brings us one step closer to a more equitable future. Events like this prove the strength of purpose-driven teamwork and highlight the positive potential of corporate retreats.

KKIS Vision

Improving lives through education.

KKIS (Keeping Kids in School) works to build stronger communities in Playa del Carmen by eliminating financial obstacles to public education. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn and succeed, and we are dedicated to making education accessible and affordable for promising students in our community.

KKIS Mission

At KKIS (Keeping Kids in School), we believe that education reduces poverty, improves lives, and builds stronger communities. Recognizing that education is often unaffordable for many families in Mexico, we remove financial barriers to keep kids in school.

Our programs provide financial assistance and help students develop essential language, life, and work skills

Through a combination of financial aid, community connections, and educational support, we achieve an impressive 86% high school graduation rate, compared to the national average of less than 50% throughout Mexico.
