Teenage siblings with KKIS supplies.

In an effort to live up to our name, “Keeping Kids in School”, KKIS decided to begin this year providing school supplies to 6th grade graduates from the elementary schools we have been helping in Nicte Ha and Cristo Rey. These kids will begin attending four different junior high schools later this month, so we made arrangements to meet them in front of their old schools with blue KKIS bags full of school supplies. Signs had been tied to the front gates reminding the students to be there between 4-6pm yesterday. They arrived with report cards proving their school attendance on motor scooters, in taxis and on bicycles.

The directors of the schools were in attendance helping to identify recent graduates who are already attending junior high or high school. KKIS had bags of supplies for them also. Along with our ex-pat volunteers, a group of Rotaract young adults helped load and transport bags and were very valuable with helping translate. It was a very good day!
