Funny Guys Raise Serious Money for Children in Playa

KKIS would like to take this opportunity to thank the funny men from Comedy Abroad for coming to Playa, making people laugh and supporting the work we do!!  With shows held at El Jardin, Lucky Luciano’s and Paamul Restaurant, $1,200 was raised for the children of Playa (i.e., school supplies for 2 classrooms of students!!).

A big thank you to everyone who came out to the shows and to Las Flores Properties and to Anah Suites for providing a place to stay for the super nice and very funny comedians; Courtney FearringtonTravis Irvine, Jon Selig and Darren Henwood.

During the day, Comedy Abroad makes videos for travel brands in sought after destinations.  At night, they make people laugh and raise money for local charities.  Think Seinfeld meets Clark Kent and multiply by 6.

The KKIS / Comedy Abroad connection was strengthened at a Travel + Social Good conference held at the United Nations in 2016 where Jon Selig, founder of Comedy Abroad shared his vision of what we hope to be an annual event expanding beyond Playa, along the Riviera Maya.

Playa del Carmen was the last leg of the Comedy Abroad’s 2017 tour of Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Mexico where….

In 5.5 weeks, 7 stand-up comedians performed 14 fundraiser shows benefiting 6 nonprofits in 6 cities/towns in 3 countries. During that time, approximately 100 hours of footage was shot on 2  cameras, 13,722 tacos were consumed, and only 2 comics were struck with Montezuma’s Revenge – all staggering numbers!

Comedy Abroad  has raised $22K USD for 8 charities!!  A lot of social good!!  Look for video footage on their YouTube channel in the weeks to come and follow them on facebook, twitter and instagram.

For a great interview with Comedy Abroad and more on KKIS, check out Warren Allen’s blog at PlayaDelCarmen.com.

The day after the last show, we took John and Travis to the Rodolfo Menendez school in Nicte Ha to say “hola” to the kids and then for a cup of coffee at Playa’s best coffee roaster, Cafe Kaawa.
