As we wind down our Give Education Campaign, we are happy to announce that 75 High School & 11 University Students will study thanks to YOU!
Covid-19 has dramatically impacted the world, but this school year, thanks to the support of the amazing KKIS Family, 86 students will stay in school!!!!
We are making 2 changes in the Scholarship Program this school year, one prompted by necessity, the other by desire – both, we are confident, will benefit the KKIS Scholars this year and in the years ahead.
- As classes will be held on-line at least for this first semester, KKIS has replaced the monthly transportation stipend students received as part of the scholarship, with the equivalent amount in phone data. This ensures that all students are able to stay connected with their teachers and with KKIS.
- In the past, KKIS High School Scholars have been encouraged, but not required to have good grades in English. This year, in addition to the requirement that students maintain an overall grade point average of 8.0, students will also be required to achieve an 8.0 out of 10 points in English. To help students who may struggle with this requirement, KKIS is providing English Classes twice a week. Classes are taught online by Kimberly Abrigo, who is a CELTA certified teacher and graduate of International House here in Playa. A long time KKIS volunteer, Kimberly has held a leadership role our annual fundraising event for the past 8 years.
Additionally, KKIS has augmented the Advisors Program which connects Spanish speaking volunteers with small groups of KKIS high school scholarship students and rolled out an online training and resource platform called the Wings Program to close the education to work gap that first generation university scholars face.
In giving education through KKIS, your investment goes beyond the payment of tuition. You are keeping kids in school with programs that give them tools to grow personally and to thrive in their chosen field.
Help us continue the work, the next school year is just around the corner….give education today.
