KKIS is taking a big step forward! In addition to giving a record 1,187 bags of supplies to students in need this year, we have established a small scholarship program, giving outstanding students who cannot afford it, the opportunity to attend high school (preparatory).
Building on our relationship with the Nicte Ha and Cristo Rey primary schools, we have granted scholarships to two junior high school graduates, who will attend the CONALEP preparatory school in the Guadalupana neighborhood, a working class area in northwest Playa. CONALEP prepares students for university, work in the hospitality industry or in the area of refrigeration and air conditioning.
MORE HELP IS NEEDED
In our discussions with CONALEP we have become aware of 32 high school-age students who are struggling financially to finish their studies there. School starts July 27. Tuition, transportation, one uniform and school supplies costs only $185 (USD) per semester. Scholarships will be given to those with the highest grades and the greatest financial need. KKIS will make payments directly to the various organizations/businesses on behalf of the students. Spanish speaking, volunteer KKIS Mentors will be assigned to each scholarship student to provide support and guidance.
Compulsory education in Mexico ends at grade 9. Students who want to go on to high school need to pass an entrance exam and pay tuition. If you would like to sponsor a student through his/her high school studies, pleae donate at our web page at www.kkisproject.org and in the ‘purpose’ field, type Scholarship Program.
The KKIS Project is a 501(c)3 US Non-profit and is able to give tax deductible receipts for donations.
