This morning nine KKIS Project volunteers arrived at Parque La Cieba in Playa del Carmen to distribute 30 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in the CAPVI Program. This is a non-profit organization helping children who have been abused. They attend different schools all around town and range in age from 7 to 16.
There were games played by the kids including a 3-legged balloon event in which balloons were tied to ankles, legs were tied together and then the teams tried to burst each others’ balloons.
One of the directors of CAPVI is also a university professor and her students had raised money to buy sneakers for all the kids. KKIS Project backpacks were given to each child, one of whom the volunteers knew from their hours spent teaching English last Spring at the DIF School.
Shoes were distributed, photos were taken and a huge cake awaited, to be followed by a piñata.
