Shelves full of school supplies in the garage/warehouse.
The KKIS Project is planning to help about 615 kids around Playa del Carmen this summer with enough school supplies to last them through the coming school year. We have crunched and crunched numbers to spread the proceeds of our annual fundraiser as far as it will go. The connection we made with the social services agency in Playa, called DIF, referred us to a school in the Nicte Ha neighborhood at the north end of town on about Calle 40 and Calle 126. There are 415 students enrolled there that have been identified as needy and we hope to help them all. Backpacks have been ruled out due to expense but each child will receive notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, pencil sharpeners, colored pencils, a dictionary, 50 sheets of colored paper, scissors, ruler, glue sticks, 100 sheets of white paper and a pencil case. The older kids will also receive a geometry set, a more advanced dictionary and a calculator.
Supplies have now been purchased and we are starting to pack. This morning six volunteers joined me in our warehouse/garage where we organized pencil cases for 239 students. Job well done!!!!!!
