A couple weeks ago a family contacted me in Playa del Carmen. They were on vacation and had heard about KKIS and brought 40 school uniform shirts to donate. They were for both boys and girls, some white and others light blue. We took the large bag of shirts with us when we delivered school supplies to the El Peten neighborhood, north and west of Playa last Saturday.
The delivery of school supplies was well underway when I remembered the shirts and brought them out. With the help of several other volunteers we found an owner for every shirt. To assure the proper size, I opened packages and held up a sparking clean shirt to child after child until we found the right fit. The two children in the photo above had come to make an application for school supplies but we had already spent our budget and could only take their mother’s phone number with a promise of coming back in December after another fundraiser. At least they each got a new shirt.
