Even though schools are closed and many activities have been canceled, some of our students are finding ways to stay connected!
We know that education isn’t just found in a classroom, so in late 2019, when KKIS was approached by Glenn Doyle, Director of Golf at Gran Coyote (formerly Grand Coral) to help identify 12 students for the First Tee Mexico program, we were thrilled.
First Tee’s aim is to blend the rules of golf with life and leadership skills for a new generation of youth who may not have the opportunity to experience the game of golf otherwise. The Riviera Maya chapter is new and expected to be a flagship program in Mexico.
Until the Covid-19 pandemic, students attended two 3-hour sessions per week after school. Their instructor, golf pro from Grand Coyote, Gerardo Larraza Garzon, would take them through physical exercises before they begin, and throughout their instruction, draw parallels between golf and life; choices, focus, practice, intent, respect, courtesy etc.
Though they are not able to meet at the golf course now, Gerardo continues their classes through video and he gives them homework!
The most recent homework was a contest where he asked students to create a drawing and a video explaining the values they have learned during golf practices.
We are very proud of their work, their growth and their strength!
