Meet Sofia, the WhatsApp Teacher.

Professor  Mike Humberto Balam is a 2nd grade teacher at Rodolfo Menendez Public Primary School here in Playa del Carmen.  During the past two years, he and his colleagues Carlos Tun Pacheco and Luis Sánchez Azcorra have been studying how their students learn to read, and they realized that kids learn faster through observation and whole word sound, so they created a fun and  interactive tool named ” Sofia “ to teach children how to read.

Lessons that look and feel more like games are taught by Sophia, the main character. The professors created several different characters and levels, so kids feel they are playing while they are learning.

Now that schools are closed, from Monday through Friday “ Sofia ” gives classes which are sent to the parents through a WhatsApp group.

Sofia” sends images with instructions and then students can answer. As we can see on the following images:[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”9287″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”9304″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”9288″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

We applaud these teachers for their work, commitment and leadership; showing that with few elements, and great initiative, possibilities for learning are endless.
