We hear from many groups visiting the area that they would like to give back to Playa del Carmen in some way.  This year, several groups gave back through organized events while others filled suitcases and brought loads of school supplies. Here are some highlights from the first 6 months of 2018.

Dead & Co Concert-Goers from around the World

Dead & Company concert organizers believe in the power of music to drive social change and have raised millions of dollars for charities by auctioning a guitar signed by members of the Grateful Dead. This year, KKIS was the lucky recipient of the auction proceeds!  Check out the video here.

ExpressWorks from Texas

As part of a team-building exercise, Expressworks, a consulting firm from the US put their managers to work “building” 300 bags of school supplies at an All Hands meeting held at Grand Velas resort. KKIS board member Fred Uriarte and high school scholarship student Kenia Robles were invited to speak at the closing dinner where Expressworks announced they were sponsoring 3 three-year high school scholarships. Thank you ExpressWorks!

Tickmill from Cyprus

Tickmill has a “pay it forward” plan as part of their employee compensation package. This year employees came to Playa, visited Cristo Rey and purchased thousands of dollars of school supplies, which will be distributed this August. See their wonderful visit here!

Anzac Day – Australians

Playa del Carmen’s Australian community gathered at the Sundowner Yacht Club on ANZAC Day – a day in which fallen soldiers are remembered. Heathe Sinclair, owner of the Sundowner, organized a great event this year with a dinner, a fantastic game of 2 Up and the raffling off of a turkey. KKIS was invited as the charity of choice so we worked with the children at the DIF school to make traditional red-poppy pins and were the recipient of great generosity from the attendees. Check out the video here.

In-Kind Donations

Thank you to all of the individuals and groups who brought school supplies this year! These in-kind donations make a huge difference in our budget, enabling the money we have raised to go much farther!  A special thank you to organizers from:
