You bid. Kids won!

Betting on the Future, Casino Night was a huge success – where kids were the big winners!

Each year, KKIS hosts an annual fundraising event where expats and locals turn out to help keep more kids in school. For this, our 8th annual event, we decided to try something new: rather than a Live Auction, we held a Casino Night complete with casino tables and dealers, carnival games like Giant Jenga, BINGO, music, drinks, and a great taco bar!

The event, held at La Vagabunda Fiesta, also included a silent auction, which has been a main stay since the very first event in 2012. Jordan MacDonald, our amazing emcee from Grupo Events, kept the evening fun with trivia and stories, Steve Thomas was the DJ playing great music and dynamic duo Greg Coswell and Cesar Vieyra manned the walk up bar which received rave reviews!

Show me the KKIS Cash!

Ok so this wasn’t a real Casino… in order to “gamble”, attendees bought KKIS Cash, like “funny money” and sat down at one of 6 casino tables to play Black Jack, Roulette, Dice or Texas Hold ‘Em.  Then the fun began! At the end of the night, KKIS Cash was exchanged for prize tickets which the winners allocated as they wished among 5 different prizes.  Drawn at the end of the evening were: a beautiful red bicycle, a trip to Muyil, a basket with liquor, CBD oil and a weekend stay at The Reef 28 with two dinners and a hydrotherapy spa included!

Will the real Las Vegas please stand up?

A Casino Night just wouldn’t be complete without someone winning a real life trip to the one and only Las Vegas! On March 6th, indeed, one lucky winner took home the generous donation by GUSA Capital of a trip for 2 to Las Vegas which included airfare and accommodation for 6 days / 5 nights! Look out Vegas, on the way is someone who had a lot of practice with KKIS Cash!

It’s all about the kids

Before the night came to a close, KKIS founder Gayle Collins thanked attendees for coming and explained that at the end of this school year, KKIS will have 25 students graduating and all of them want to go to University which costs ~1,800 USD per year.  In the background, on the TV screens, a video flashed images of students laughing while practicing their English with KKIS Volunteers, images of beaming children holding close a bag of school supplies, a Valedictorian’s speech, and suddenly, paddles shot up offering more donations to pay for these kids to continue their education.

When asked about the event, Luigi, a long time KKIS supporter said this, “I’ve been coming to in the KKIS auction for at least the last six years. To see the children involved [KKIS Scholars helped out at the event] that was important, there were smiles everywhere… I’m really looking forward to the next one!”.

Thank you, Sponsors, Donors & Volunteers!

This wonderful night would not have been possible without our Title Sponsor, North American Standards or the other sponsors and donors from the community.
