A Team-Building Activity with a Purpose
During their annual company retreat in Cancun, employees from an International Tech Company gathered at Planet Hollywood in the Riviera Maya for a unique team-building experience—one that combined collaboration, competition, and community service. Together, they packed 200 backpacks filled with essential school supplies, which will be donated this summer during KKIS’s school supply drive. These backpacks will provide local students with the tools they need to succeed in school.
This initiative is part of KKIS’s mission to improve access to education for underserved students in Mexico. By supplying backpacks filled with notebooks, pencils, erasers, and other essentials, the Company’s team played a direct role in setting local children up for academic success.
Strengthening Team Bonds Through Giving Back
For many of the Company employe’s volunteering, this retreat was their first time meeting their coworkers in person. With team members spread across different continets, the event provided a rare opportunity to connect face-to-face. Packing school supplies became more than just a charitable act—it was a moment of collaboration, problem-solving, and fun.
Before diving into the packing session, the group participated in an interactive educational activity inside a ballroom. The final challenge of the day—a math relay—was especially exciting. In this high-energy competition, participants raced to the front of the room to have their math quizzes graded, only to be sent back if their answers needed correction. Laughter and cheers filled the room as teams worked together to complete the challenge as quickly as possible.
Making an Impact Through Corporate Social Responsibility
Although the math relay was a highlight, the true impact came when employees stepped onto a terrace overlooking the resort pool to assemble the backpacks. The scenic backdrop added to the excitement, but the most rewarding part was knowing that each filled backpack represented a child who would start the school year prepared and confident.
