In a perfect world, college students would be able to attend school full-time and not have to worry about working a job. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Many students today are forced to work in order to pay for school related expenses.

Additionally, education is an important part of early childhood development. If children fail to receive the education they need in their early years, they may be less likely to pursue qualifications in higher education and may even struggle to enter the workforce. Something as simple as basic math is often not taught to students who do not go to school.

There are absolutely some positive reasons to work after school, but there are also many disadvantages of after school jobs.

When students are working after school, they’ll be tired when they finally get home, and that makes it tough to stay focused on homework. The pursuit of money can, and has, cut into one’s ability to focus on school.

Added stress is one of the disadvantages of after school jobs

Jobs can create stress, even if they are still children. Just one stressor is transportation. In many areas houses are far apart and not near main roads, without good public transportation students are often walking several miles late at nite home from their job.

Ideally, they won’t be spending their teenage years stressed out, there’s plenty of time for that later in life. It’s possible to work part time and still enjoy your youth, millions of people do it every single year, but having the added stress of a demanding job can put a blight on these special years.

While there are some drawbacks to having a job while attending college, there are also many benefits.

There are benefits to having a job while in college. For instance, jobs can help students develop time management skills and learn how to budget their money. Jobs can also teach students the value of hard work and responsibility. These are all skills that will be useful after graduation.

Making money and paying for tuition, books, and other expenses

Of course, one of the main reasons why students get jobs while in college is to make money. Tuition and other expenses can be very expensive, and working a part-time job can help offset these costs. Many students also use their jobs to pay for books and other supplies.  All our lives we have been dependent upon our parents for all our money needs. We are getting to an age where we need to start taking responsibility and take some of the load off their shoulders.

Not everybody has the luxury or the privilege to have parents who are going to pay for their lives in college, and those people may need to get jobs at a younger age than they would if their parents were funding their way. It is what it is, and if our students are in a position where they need some extra spending or if they simply don’t have a choice because there are bills that need to be paid and they’ve got to step up and take on the responsibility of an after school job.
