How KKIS Helps 3rd Year High School Students Prepare for the Future

When our students reach their 3rd and final year of high school, they have reached a point that some never thought they could achieve. They are on the verge of becoming high school graduates.

We want all of our high school students to continue on to university. High schools might not give enough guidance when it comes to options for university. And we realize that it’s not going to happen with all of them.

So in the final year of their high school education, KKIS helps students prepare for the future. Either as students in university or as responsible young adults entering the working world.

Preparing Graduates for the World of Work

If a student decides not to go to university, the least we can do is prepare them for the world of work. Because they may often be forced to take any job out of financial necessity, we can offer them options and how to best approach getting a job. We do this by talking them about:

  • How to fill out a job application
  • How to dress for an interview
  • How to prepare for a job interview
  • How to spot a scam job

Vocational Interests

Pairing up professionals with students that are interested in their field of study provides a vital dose of realism that they get from one-on-one conversations. Sometimes there is an element of naivety or fantasy about a chosen career.

Students may have unrealistic ideas about this particular career path. So it becomes necessary to tell them the facts in order to avoid disappointment later down the road. This may even lead them to choose a different path in university.

SEP Federal Vocational Test Teach Kids About Their Interests

One way that we can advise out graduating 3rd year student is through the SEP survey. This allows them to match up their interests with their abilities. This way they can better choose a career path that fits best. We ask them: do you like math? Do you enjoy being in nature? Do you like working with people?

Personal Development

It’s important to always remember that KKIS students are human beings first. We break down 5 key points that are important for their development. Education is important, but so is their mental and emotional health.

  • Health
  • Personal
  • Professional
  • Financial
  • Social

Studying Online

KKIS high school graduates are made aware that they have other options to continue studying that doesn’t necessarily involve a typical university. With the opening of new online schools and online courses, students are no longer limited in their choices for post-high school education and training.

If a student want to study a subject that is not offered in the Riviera Maya universities, they can explore online course. Digital training for graphic design, photography, video or web courses may be a better option.

In the case of students that want to begin working right away after finishing high school, this is an alternative to a university program. We tell them that it may take longer to complete an online course. If they must begin working right away to support their families, it will be more difficult. But it can be done.

Deciding Your Future / School Visits

Planning visits to the various universities in the area is important so that our KKIS students can see what the schools look are like and what they offer. They are able to meet with school administrators and ask important practical questions relevant to their school of choice.

They students want to know: is there reliable transport to the school from their home? What information can they tell them that is not on the school’s website?

Completing a high school education is a dream come true

Helping KKIS students complete a high school education is a major achievement. Each high school graduate that KKIS supports is changing the statistics for Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya.

By supporting out efforts of keeping kids in school you can ensure a brighter future for them, their communities, and the country of Mexico.
