The benefits of a university degree are known far and wide. In many countries there are government funded loans you can get to finance a degree. In Mexico that is not the case.
Did you know – 70% of 7th graders believe they will graduate with a university degree, yet according to the Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), only 45% of Mexican students who start high school actually complete getting a diploma.
We like to think of your donation as an investment. KKIS is more than a transactional organization we are transforming lives thanks to investors like you.
We want to help to as many students as possible realize their dreams of graduating from high school and going on to university.
A Student story:
Let me introduce you to Irma. Irma is a determined young lady who graduates university in the spring of 2023 with a degree in law.
What makes her so amazing is her dedication to making a big impact on equality for all workers and to treat the environment with fairness.
A donor paid for her 4 years of university. She didn’t take it lightly.
KKIS asked a prominent attorney to give her an internship. Reluctantly the attorney agreed.
Turns out this 1sr year law student was more qualified than the graduates from Mexico City the attorney had working in her office.
We told the story of Irma through a video at our Gala, you can watch it here.
Irma didn’t just receive the financial help to get her law degree. She worked 3 years in a lawyer’s office gaining real world experience and now she has full time employment working.
She is transforming her community by working with a nonprofit to protect the environment and she has successfully stopped the train from causing damage to the local cenotes. She is also bringing awareness to low wage workers about fairness in workplace safety.
Your investment in promising university students like Irma is what creates a better community for all of us.

The option to get a loan for university is not an option.
What should a university degree cost? In the US it is outrageous. In other countries the cost of higher education is also high.
Here in Mexico our students can go to a local university and get a four-year degree for just $2800 usd per year per student. That is quite a bargain when you think about the actual value it creates.
Sponsoring a student is also a tax-deductible donation. This can provide a financial benefit to the sponsor and may make it more affordable to provide ongoing support to a student.
Overall, sponsoring a student in the Riviera Maya can be a meaningful and impactful way to make a difference in the world while also providing personal satisfaction and potential practical benefits.
