School Supplies
What Motivates Us
There are children who are not going to school simply because their families cannot afford school supplies. Mexico’s minimum wage was raised on Jan 1, 2021 to $141.70 pesos per work day – that is $7 dollars a day. A year’s worth of school supplies for one child costs on average, $550 MXN or $25 USD.
For many parents that is a week’s worth of wages. Imagine the decisions that parents have to make here. The tradeoffs.
How do children learn without basic school supplies?

What We Do
KKIS works with the Secretary of Education to identify schools most in need.
We gather school supplies all year long – donors give online, at events or they bring supplies to the KKIS office. In August, volunteers put together age-specific bags of school supplies. The first week of school, KKIS volunteers hand the bags of supplies directly to students and wish them a successful school year.
