CETMAR high school Spelling Bee

The first CETMAR high school English language Spelling Bee took place Friday, June 23 at the school in Villas del Sol neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.  14 students volunteered to participate and represented all three years of study. The school community had prepared the outdoor event with balloons and banners. Helpers wore bumble bee outfits and hostesses were dressed in black and yellow.   Mike Humberto had designed the competition and provided score sheets for the three judges who were KKIS Project volunteers.  Janet Lowe called the students to the microphone and pronounced the word for each contestant who was  asked to spell the word and use it in a sentence.

There were 5 prize winners. The top three are pictured above. But CETMAR 36 was really the winner!

The Director of another high school, CONALEP in the Guadalupana neighborhood, was in attendance and there are plans for an inter-school Spelling Bee competition next school year.
