School Supplies

What Motivates Us

A years worth of school supplies for one child cost’s on average, 240 pesos or $20 USD.   For many of the working poor, this is a weeks worth of wages.  Our goal for the 2017/2018 school year is to provide a year’s worth of school supplies to 2,530 students in need.

What We Do

Through this program KKIS becomes acquainted with school directors, teachers, parents and communities. It is a critical first step which says, “we are here for you.”  This program dates back to 2011 when we took applications in parks outside of the tourist zone and gave away 258 backpacks full of school supplies. In 2014, we began working with Playa del Carmen’s municipal social services agency (DIF) who recommended schools having the highest percentage of in-need students.

One forth of the school supplies donated in 2016 were in-kind donations.

How Does it Help?

In addition to providing financial help to families, teachers report that the children receiving a years worth of school supplies (something completely unheard of in these parts) are inspired and engaged like never before!

We need your help!

Donations of all size are what keeps KKIS going and helping the children in Playa del Carmen.  Please click the DONATE NOW button at the top of the page to make a donation.
